The library on the move

At the Curry Library we’re constantly looking for new and improved ways to help you find the right information more efficiently. We continue to add databases (check out Web of Science and MathSciNet), but we’re also trying to make the use of our resources more user-friendly:

  1. We’re introducing a new tool called 360 Search, which will allow you to search all or any group of our databases in a single search. You can either search by database or by subject. Either way, the program can display articles or books wherever they appear in our collection.
  2. To help you keep up with the ways our print collection stays up to date, we’ve set up a New Book Shelf next to the Information desk. This shelf will always contain the books we’ve received in the preceding few weeks. Of course the books are available for checkout.
  3. The Chronicle of Higher Education (which continues to be available free from any campus computer) has developed a new electronic newsletter drawn from the Chronicle Review. As they say, “Every week, the newsletter delivers quick summaries and links to articles and essays on intellectual debates and controversies, along with critical commentaries and maniacal musings on the arts, books, culture, politics, religion, and pretty much any topic that is worth some thoughtful discussion and reflection.” Go to http://chronicle.com/help/emails/review?s10108 to sign up
Finally (and this isn’t quite so new), go to our Research Guide on the library web page and find out from 10 of your favorite faculty members Why the Library is Better than Google! Both enjoyable and informative
